What's it all about? 

Software development plays a vital role in the IT industry. If you want to thrive in this industry you need to be very detail oriented, be able to combine your logical thinking with the ability to focus for long periods and have a positive, can-do attitude. Not only that, you'll need a large dose of creativity too! On our foundation degree we will help you perfect your mastery of these skills and develop your ability to analyse, program and project manage software solutions.

Progression 

On successful completion you may progress to:

  • the final year of the BSc (Hons) Computing or BSc (Hons) Multimedia Computing degrees at Plymouth University
  • employment in the industry.

Entry Requirements 

We welcome applications from those who have a minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above including English and maths, and one of the following:

  • 120 UCAS tariff points
  • a BTEC national award in a related subject
  • a 14-19 advanced diploma
  • an advanced Apprenticeship
  • an NVQ level 3 in a related subject
  • equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

Duration 

Two years

The part time version of this course runs for one day a week over three years to allow employees to learn new skills whilst maintaining a full-time employment.

This course will give employees the skills to develop their own understanding and awareness of an organisation's needs so that they can work effectively to support that organisation.

Are there any exams? 

Modules are assessed by a mixture of coursework, in-class tests and examinations.

What does the course involve? 

The course includes the following modules:

  • computer platforms
  • project management
  • analysis and design of software
  • programming.

In the final year, possible optional modules include games development, multimedia design or e-business.
