The City of Plymouth
- Has a population of 275,000 and is located in the beautiful south west of England, an area where many British people choose to take their holidays in the Summer. It is easy to reach from London, either by train (three hours), coach or by air from Gatwick Airport.
- Is a coastal city, surrounded by many miles of dramatic coastline and beaches. Dartmoor National Park is only 20 minutes from the city, offering opportunities for hiking, horseback riding and picnics with friends in the green countryside.
- Is famous for its maritime history and has one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the world. Sir Francis Drake sailed into battle against the Spanish Armada in 1588 from Plymouth and in 1620 the Pilgrim Fathers set sail to the New World of America. Today, Plymouth remains one of the UK's largest bases for the Royal Navy.
- Has a modern shopping centre with a large shopping mall full of fashion and shoe shops. There are many facilities for young people and students in the City including bars, nightclubs, cafes, restaurants, art galleries and cinemas. The Theatre Royal is one of the best theatres in the country with a varied programme of drama, opera, ballet and musicals.
- Has an old historic harbour area called The Barbican, which has 16th century buildings, craft shops, outdoor cafes and bars. Plymouth Hoe is popular with students - it looks out across the harbour (Plymouth Sound) and people like to walk, ride bikes, or simply sit and enjoy the magnificent views here. What our students say

'There is a beautiful natural harbour near the place that I am living, so I can go there every week in the evening. This is really beautiful and I enjoy the life here as I am interested in the sea.'
