Providing education and training to Plymouth, Devon, Cornwall and the wider community
City College Plymouth has launched its Summer Campaign encouraging 16-19 year olds to stay in education and training to develop the necessary skills, which will make them employable rather than face an unstable employment market unskilled.
Research has shown that there is a lack of employability skills of young people looking to enter the workforce - a recent survey reinforced these findings, with 35% of employers saying that when recruiting they had not been able to find young people entering the job market with the necessary skills to work in their businesses.
Additionally, the latest unemployment figures have shown that the greatest increase in unemployment is amongst 16-19 year olds - making it an extremely difficult time for unskilled school leavers to find employment.
The Campaign highlights that the courses available at the College are designed to give students the skills and qualifications that employers are looking for.
The College has strong links with local employers, ensuring student access to work placements and valuable vocational experiences. Local employers have an input into how the courses are developed and many of the companies they engage with recruit the students after successful completion of their course.
This collaborative approach has recently been formalised further through the introduction of the Employer Endorsement Scheme - Where local employers have given courses their stamp of approval. They feel the courses provide them with future employees that are work-ready and skilled in the areas required by the local economy.
Catherine Sims, Marketing Officer at City College Plymouth commented: “The Campaign is mainly targeting the 16-19 age groups, as we feel there is a real need for these young people to realise the importance of education and training in securing long-term and fulfilling employment.
“That’s why the strapline - make learning enjoyable and you employable fits in perfectly with the College’s ethos.”
Sigma Marketing and Advertising Ltd designed the Campaign on behalf of City College Plymouth.
The College is holding information, advice and enrolment sessions on Friday 20 August and Thursday 26 August between 10.00am and 2.00pm and Thursday 2 September and Tuesday 7 September between 4.00pm and 7.00pm.
